"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in earth below. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them."
The second commandment that God gave is closely connected with the first. Since we are told not to have any other gods, we are commanded not to make or submit to anything that could give the appearance of a god.
True worship is by faith and not by sight!
Serve Him!
Have a good day!

Dad

2 Samuel 22:1-51
(1) And David spoke unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
(2) And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
(3) The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; thou savest me from violence.
(4) I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
(5) When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
(6) The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;
(7) In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
(8) Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.
(9) There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
(10) He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.
(11) And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.
(12) And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.
(13) Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.
(14) The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.
(15) And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.
(16) And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.
(17) He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;
(18) He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.
(19) They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
(20) He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
(21) The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
(22) For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
(23) For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
(24) I was also upright before him and have kept myself from mine iniquity.
(25) Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.
(26) With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright.
(27) With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt show thyself unsavory.
(28) And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
(29) For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.
(30) For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.
(31) As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
(32) For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?
(33) God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
(34) He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
(35) He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
(36) Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.
(37) Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.
(38) I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.
(39) And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.
(40) For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.
(41) Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
(42) They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
(43) Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.
(44) Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.
(45) Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.
(46) Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
(47) The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.
(48) It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,
(49) And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
(50) Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.
(51) He is the tower of salvation for his king: and showeth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed forevermore.

Faith and Trials

September 21, 1840. Those who trust in the Lord will never be disappointed. Some who helped us for a while may fall asleep in Jesus, some may grow cold in the service of the Lord, some may be as desirous as ever to help but no longer have the means, and some may have both a willing heart to help and the means but may see it to be the Lord's will to give in another way. If we were to lean upon man, we would surely be disappointed; but in leaning upon the living God alone, we are beyond disappointment and beyond being forsaken for any reason.
December 9, 1840. Our desire, therefore, is not that we may be without trials of faith, but that the Lord wold graciously support us in the trial and that we may not dishonor Him by distrust.
Prove the faithfulness of God by carrying your every want to Him. Only maintain an upright heart. But if you live in sin and if you willfully and habitually do things which you know are contrary to the will of God, then you cannot expect Him to hear you. "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me; But verily God hath heard me ; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer" (Psalm 66: 18-19)

Faith, not sight
It often gets dangerous to travel on the slick roads when it snows or rains. Even if we travel with caution, there are times when we'll lose control of our car.
Life, at times, can appear to be slippery without any firmness below us.
The Psalmist David said,
"Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not." Psalm 17:5
We are commanded to put our trust in God and not in ourselves [or any other material or non-material possession]. He is so powerful and mighty that nothing can overcome Him.
Put your trust in Him.
Have a good day!
Love,
Dad
A severe thunderstorm passed through our region late last night causing the destruction of an area interstate attraction. The "touchdown jesus" (as it is called...notice the small "j") was struck by lightening and burned to the ground. The church maintains that it has never been their intention for the 62-foot statue to be an idol of worship but rather as a reminder as travelers drive along I75 that Jesus loves them and wants a relationship with them. It is my opinion that lightening has never struck a more worthy ornament of blasphemy.
-------
that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. We speak wisdom, however, among them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nought: but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, even the wisdom that hath been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds unto our glory: which none of the rulers of this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory: but as it is written, Things which eye saw not, and ear heard not, And which entered not into the heart of man, Whatsoever things God prepared for them that love him. But unto us God revealed them through the Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For who among men knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him? even so the things of God none knoweth, save the Spirit of God. But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit teacheth; combining spiritual things with spiritual words. (1 Corinthians 2:5-13)
Being therefore always of good courage, and knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord (for we walk by faith, not by sight); (2 Corinthians 5:6-7)
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)
But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: (Matthew 25:31-34)
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels: (Matthew 25:41)

True Heart Faith

"With the heart man believeth" Romans 10:10
Thus saith Jehovah: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from Jehovah. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusteth in Jehovah, and whose trust Jehovah is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat cometh, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? I, Jehovah, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. As the partridge that sitteth on eggs which she hath not laid, so is he that getteth riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool. A glorious throne, set on high from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary. O Jehovah, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be put to shame. They that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken Jehovah, the fountain of living waters. Heal me, O Jehovah, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise. (Jeremiah 17:5-14)
"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus; and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." This is the one thing that is essential: you must believe in thine heart. I urge you to "examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith." I would do nothing to rob any true believer of the joy of confident assurance. But I must warn all men to guard against religious presumption. It is Satan's cheap counterfeit.
False faith can be very deceptive. False faith produces good works. It excites the emotions. It reforms the outward life. It performs deeds of religion. It causes sorrow for sin. It speaks well of Christ. It does works of charity. It trembles under the preaching of the gospel. False faith gains high offices in the church. It secures peace of mind. It walks in the company of great preachers. False faith even holds out to the Day of Judgment (Matt. 7:22-23). My friend, beware of false faith! Remember Lot's wife, Judas, Simon, Demas and Diotrephes. Be not numbered among them.
True faith is the heart knowledge of, trust in and submission to the Lord Jesus Christ. God has revealed Christ to us in the gospel, by which we know our desperate need and his saving power and fairness. Trusting Christ alone as our all-sufficient Savior, we commit ourselves, boy and soul, to him. And where there is true faith, there is the submission of heart to Christ as our sovereign Lord and King. This faith comes not by heredity, nor by the logic and persuasiveness of the preacher. It is the gift of God. Christ is revealed in the heart by the Holy Spirit.
This heart faith can be known by those who possess it. Have we believed? If so, we have firmly, cordially and voluntarily received Christ in all his offices. To them that believe, Christ is precious. Heart faith purifies the heart and weans it from the world. Heart faith works by love, lives in hope and rests in Christ. This is true faith. This is heart faith. Forsaking all I take Him.

Stand Firm
That which we really believe will show itself, not when things are going well, but during times of difficulty.
We map out our life's plan and travel along the road and sometimes as we continue, we must change our plans and/or course. When we must quickly decide which way to go, we will rely on our reflexes-that which we have been building throughout our life. It is at these times when we demonstrate our true beliefs.
If we have no real faith or true goals before us, it will show when we're confronted.
Stand firm and know yourself.
Have a good day!
Love,
Dad
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Be still, and know that I am God: (Psalms 46:1, 10)
Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, and on my behalf, that utterance may be given unto me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Ephesians 6:10-20)
